Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a traditional medical system which has been in use for more than 5,000 years in treating diseases, preventing illness, and improving well-being. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized acupuncture for its effective treatment of over 200 medical conditions.
Einstein believed and proposed through scientific theory that everything consists of and is made of energy. Chinese medical theory is also based on this profound, yet simple concept. Acupuncture works by restoring our energy, or Qi (pronounced “chee”), to promote healing. When our Qi is balanced, we can more easily maintain good health and have a greater capacity for happiness and fulfillment.
Areas of Specialty
Shannon works with a broad spectrum of health concerns and goals. Below are some of the stronger areas of focus in her practice, please click on them to learn more. She also works with digestive health, pain management, headaches, preventative medicine and well being.

What to Expect During a Treatment
Shannon spends 60-90 minutes with patients for initial acupuncture treatments. This enables her to get a thorough picture of each person’s health, lifestyle, and goals. As a holistic practitioner Shannon works with the mind, body, spirit.

Acupuncture works by inserting sterile needles at precise acupuncture points throughout the body. The acupuncture points are located on meridians, or channels of energy. The meridians flow through specific areas of our body promoting general wellness and nourishing the physical body in a myriad of ways. When a blockage occurs in one part of the channel, it impedes the flow of energy in other areas of the body. Acupuncture works to remove the blockage, provide balance and restore the normal flow of Qi throughout the meridian systems.

During acupuncture treatments, patients lie on a comfortable massage table where Shannon will insert sterile needles at precise acupuncture points. She uses a gentle style of acupuncture with very thin gauge needles, palpating most acupuncture points prior to inserting the needles. Patients may occasionally feel a needle being inserted, but overall acupuncture is minimally felt. Acupuncture treatments last roughly 20-30 minutes. Most people find acupuncture to be relaxing and restorative.
